14-Year-Old Arrested in Connection with Fatal Crash

According to news reports, the boy has been charged with murder after driving an SUV full of teens throwing eggs at cars.

 

January 1, 2019 – 2:20 pm: The 45-year-old Silvia Zavala was killed in a crash that took place while a group of teenagers in an SUV were throwing eggs at passing cars on Tuesday afternoon. The driver of the SUV, a 14-year-old boy, has been arrested and charged with murder in connection to the case.

The accident took place on the 2000 block of Aldine Westfield Road and Aldine Mail Route, in Harris County.

The teens ran through a red light at 60 miles per hour, hitting Zavala’s truck. According to officers, Zavala was pronounced dead on the scene.

The teens in the SUV were reportedly throwing eggs at passing vehicles just before the crash took place. They claim that a driver they egged pulled out a gun and chased them, leading to the accident. Investigators are speaking with the driver of that vehicle as well.

The teen who was driving the SUV suffered a broken ankle, while another has been taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The third teen was not injured. The crash is still under investigation.
