2 Killed, 5 Injured in Crash Involving Drug Smugglers

According to news reports, the two deaths were innocent motorists who were struck by the cartel smugglers after a high-speed chase.

March 13, 2019 – 9:30 am: Leonel Martinez Jr., 45, and Aurora Sanchez, 69, were killed when their white Nissan was struck by a Ford Expedition. The Ford Expedition was being pursued by police in a chase that began at 9:30 on Wednesday morning.
The crash took place on U.S Highway 83 in La Joya.

Five people in the Expedition were injured in the crash. According to Lieutenant Johnny Hernandez of the Texas Department of Public Safety, “All five of them were transported to a local hospital, some were stable and some were critical.”

The driver of the Expedition, fled the scene on foot and has not yet been apprehended. According to some reports, the Expedition was a cartel vehicle smuggling drugs from Mexico. Hernandez reports that the U.S. border patrol is actively searching for the man.

The condition of the survivors of the accident has not been made public, and none of them have been publicly identified at this time. The accident is currently under investigation at the present time.
