78-Year-Old Pedestrian Killed in Accident

According to news reports, the man was hit by a car that was making a turn in Waco.

 

December 26, 2018 – 6:00 pm: A 78-year-old man in Waco died of wounds he sustained in an accident on Wednesday evening. Robert Melendez was reportedly hit on Wednesday evening and died of his wounds on Thursday morning.

The accident took place on the corner of Parklake Drive and N 19th Street in Waco.

A Dodge Charger was making a turn from Parklake to 19th when it hit Melendez, who was crossing the street at the time of the crash.

Investigators report that Melendez was in critical condition when he was taken to the hospital in the immediate aftermath of the accident. Melendez survived the night, but died shortly afterward on Thursday morning.

The driver who hit Melendez has not been publicly identified. At this time it does not appear likely that the driver will face charges relating to the involvement in the accident. The driver was cooperative, stopped at the scene of the accident, and gave police a report on the accident when they arrived to conduct their investigation.

The accident is still under investigation at this time.
