Four Killed, Two Injured in Bastrop Crash

October 7, 2018

The Texas Department of Public Safety suggests that the accident was caused by driving too fast for rainy conditions.

October 7, 2018 – 11:38 am: Four people were killed and one child was injured in a major crash near Old McDade Road in Bastrop on Sunday morning.

The names of the victims have not been released at this time. News reports state that two of the victims were children.

The accident took place on SH 95 South of 1441. A 2016 Dodge Ram headed northbound on SH 95 hydroplaned while driving too fast for the rainy weather conditions. This caused a 1996 Honda passenger car, headed southbound, to crash into the side of the Dodge Ram.

The driver of the Honda died in the crash, as did three passengers on board. The driver of the Dodge survived but was injured, and a child in the Honda was also hospitalized.

Susie Herndon, who lives just down the road from the site of the crash, reported that she heard a sound like thunder when the accident occurred.

Herndon said, “I’m still shook up every time I talk about it. Very emotional for the children that didn’t survive.”

The accident is still under investigation.
