According to news reports, the bicyclist was hit when a pickup truck drifted off of the road and hit her.
December 12, 2018 – 7:00 pm: Shannon Harrington, 31, of Vidor, Texas, was killed in an accident that took place while she was riding her bicycle on Wednesday evening in Orange County.
The accident took place on Farm to Market Road 105, near the intersection with West Circle Road. Harrington was riding her bicycle northbound on FM 105 and was hit by a 2008 Ford pickup that was headed southbound.
The driver of the Ford was the 18-year-old Kevin Lightfoot, of Silsbee. For unknown reasons, his vehicle drifted off of the main portion of the roadway and hit Harrington’s bicycle head-on.
Harrington was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Rodney Price. Lightfoot was not injured in the accident.
Officers of the Texas Department of Public Safety are still investigating the cause of the crash. It is still unknown why Lightfoot’s vehicle drifted from its lane and hit Harrington. DPS has not commented on the potential explanations that are being considered for the accident, nor on whether they expect any charges or citations to be filed in the case.
