News reports state that one driver was killed and another injured in a two-vehicle collision three miles east of DeKalb.
September 11, 2018 – 6:40 am: Amanda Dawn Gardner, a 35-year-old resident of DeKalb, Texas, was killed Tuesday morning in a crash three miles east of DeKalb.
The accident occurred on U.S. Highway 82, where Gardner’s 2013 Chevrolet Impala was heading westbound. A 2017 Chevrolet Impala struck Gardner’s vehicle from behind, sending both vehicles out of control and into a ditch.
Gardner’s 2013 Impala flipped before coming to rest in the ditch. When investigators from the Texas Department of Public Safety arrived at the location of the accident, Gardner was pronounced dead on the scene.
The 2017 Impala traveled several hundred feet from the site of the collision, flipping end over end several times before coming to a rest in an upside-down position. The driver of the 2017 Impala, Adrian Severn Blood, a 24-year-old from Avery, was taken to St. Michael Hospital in Texarkana. His injuries are not disclosed at this time.
The crash is still under investigation, but preliminary findings indicate that the driver of the 2017 Impala was speeding, and this may have caused the accident.
