Driver Killed in Thick Fog on Tuesday Morning

January 1, 2019

According to news reports, police suspect that alcohol, fog, or a combination of the two may have been the main cause of the accident.

January 1, 2019 – 5:00 am: An unidentified driver was killed in a single-vehicle crash that took place early on Tuesday morning. Police report that the driver of the Dodge pickup involved in the accident was killed after his vehicle crossed a T-intersection and hit a tree.

The crash took place at the intersection of South Post Oak at McHard. The driver was headed down Post Oak, where it dead ends into McHard.

Either because of the fog, intoxication, or both, the driver of the vehicle did not stop at the dead end. The pickup blew through the intersection, running through a ditch and ultimately slamming into a tree.

Police do not know whether the driver was intoxicated or not, but the high number of impaired drivers on the road after the New Year’s holiday make this a distinct possibility. News crews report that heavy fog has been creating problems with visibility, even for drivers who are not impaired.

The cause of the accident is still not known with certainty. The crash is still under investigation.
