Galveston Man Killed in Hit-and-Run on Sunday

According to news reports, the man had just been released from Galveston County Jail, mere hours before his death.

 

January 13, 2019 – 9:15 pm: The 54-year-old Kenneth Borroum was killed after being hit by a pickup truck on Sunday evening in Galveston. He had been arrested for driving with a suspended or invalid license earlier that day, and had been released from jail that afternoon.

Borroum was hit while he was trying to cross Broadway, about 300 yards from the front entrance of the jail. He was taken to the University of Texas Medical Branch hospital and died about half an hour after he was hit.

The driver of the truck that hit Borroum fled the scene of the accident, but was subsequently tracked down and arrested. Donald Sanford, 54, was charged with accident involving death. He was arrested Monday on a warrant for driving while intoxicated.

Sanford faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000 if he is found guilty of the felony charge against him. As of Tuesday afternoon, he was being held on $250,000 bond at the Galveston County Jail.

This crash is still under investigation at this time.
