October 19, 2018 – 5:30 am: A 2-alarm fire broke out in the Hunters Cove apartments early Friday morning. Fortunately, there were no fatalities, but one person may have suffered a case of smoke inhalation.
The fire took place in the Hunters Cove complex at the corner of De Soto Street and Oak Bay Drive. Flames were seen burning through the roof of the building. Firefighters arrived quickly and began going room-to-room to ensure that everyone in the building was evacuated.
According to apartment management, everyone living in the building was successfully evacuated, although one pet dog is still missing. Management also says that there are enough vacant apartments in the complex to house the families that lost their apartments in the fire.
De Soto and Oak Bay were both shut down for some time after the accident. The Red Cross was informed about the accident and sent help on Friday.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, and arson investigators will arrive to investigate the scene.
