December 11, 2018

According to news reports, the man was a truck driver who was trying to retrieve a cell phone when he fell into the hole.

December 11, 2018 – 1:30 am: A man was injured when he fell 20 feet down into a manhole very early on Tuesday morning. Houston firefighters were able to rescue him from the hole, and he is now in treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

The fall happened behind Love’s truck stop in northwest Houston, at 210 Patton Street.

The man reports that he dropped his phone before falling into the hole, and that he was trying to get his phone back when he fell in.

Fortunately, another truck driver saw the man fall into the hole and was able to reach a security guard, who called 911. The Houston Fire Department arrived shortly afterward and was able to get the man out in short order.

This was lucky for the man, because people have been known to be trapped in manholes for much longer periods of time. In October 2017, for example, a 40-year-old man spent nine days trapped in a manhole.

The identity of the man who fell Tuesday morning has not yet been made public.
