VWs are well known for being fuel efficient and environmentally friendly.\u00a0 However, VW has defrauded consumers by installing inaccurate emissions sensors, which produce fake emissions test results.\u00a0 The effected models were equipped with \u201cdefeat devices\u201d that turn off emissions controls, except when the car is being emissions tested.<\/p>\n

VW has deliberately misled consumers.\u00a0 In a statement given on September 20, 2015, former VW CEO Martin Winterkorn, who has since stepped down from the supervisory board, vowed to \u201cdo everything that must be done in order to re-establish the trust that so many people have placed in [them]\u201d and \u201cdo everything necessary in order to reverse the damage this has caused.\u201d<\/p>\n
