December 18, 2018 – 8:00 pm: Horseback rider Richard Wright was killed after being hit by an SUV while trying to cross the highway on Sunday night. A child in the SUV was slightly injured by shattering glass as a result of the accident. The horse also died in the crash.

The accident took place at Lord Road and U.S. 90 east, in the Crosby area.

According to investigators, the man was trying to cross the freeway when he and his horse were struck and killed.

Investigators say that Wright was either trying to beat the traffic across the street, or else his horse panicked and darted in the middle of the road. They are still trying to determine which of the two possibilities was the real cause of the accident.

The SUV involved in the accident carried a new mother, her newborn, and her family on the way home from the hospital. The parents and the newborn were uninjured, but their 2-year-old experienced some minor injuries from broken glass.

The accident is still under investigation at this time.
