December 16, 2018 – 8:55 pm: An Aldine ISD police officer faces charges after injuring a pedestrian in a hit-and-run accident.

The crash happened outside a Panda Express in east Houston, at the 13400 block of Topeka.

The officer, Omario Gatheright, was pulling out of the parking lot of the Panda Express when he hit the woman, who was taken to the hospital soon afterward. Her injuries appear to have been relatively minor, as she was released shortly after being admitted.

After the accident, Gatheright fled the scene. He returned to the location of the accident at 10:30 P.M. He now faces charges for failure to stop and render aid.

Gatheright has been placed on administrative leave after the accident. According to a statement from Aldine ISD, the district “was made aware that an employee has been arrested in connection with an automobile accident that occurred while he was off-duty Sunday night. The AISD police officer has been removed from duty and placed on administrative leave while an investigation is underway.”

The investigation into the event is ongoing.
