According to news reports, police do not believe the children in one of the vehicles were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
January 26, 2019 – 11:00 pm: One child is dead and two others were injured after a crash that took place in west Harris County on Saturday night.
The accident took place along the 2250 block of Morton Ranch Road, near the corner of Elrod Road.
Rafael Quiroz was driving eastbound at the time of the accident, in which he hit the vehicle in which Jose Chavez and his family were riding. Chavez was with his wife, Bernice, and their three children: Nora, 3, Elijah, 6, and Ella, 4.
Elijah was killed in the crash, when the vehicle Quiroz was driving hit the right side of the Chavez family’s car. The other two children were also injured in the crash, and 3-year-old Nora was in critical condition when she arrived at the hospital.
According to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, deputies do not believe the children were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. The cause of the accident is still unclear, and the crash is still being investigated at this time.
