The accident occurred on U.S. 285, about 13 miles south of Orla, Texas.

The crash took place between a Kenworth truck tractor, pulling a semi-trailer, and a Mercedes Benz passenger vehicle. Jose Chavez, 28, was driving the tractor-trailer southbound along U.S. 285 at the time of the accident.

Boyd D. Andrews, 62, was driving the Mercedes Benz northbound at the time of the crash. For unknown reasons, the Mercedes turned into the southbound lane, hitting the 18-wheeler head-on.

Andrews was killed in the crash and pronounced dead on the scene of the accident. Chavez was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash is not known at this time, although the late hour and the circumstances of the accident make it appear that alcohol may have been a contributing factor. The Texas Department of Public Safety is still investigating the accident.
