Pedestrian Struck and Killed in Anderson County

According to news reports, the pedestrian was crossing the street from south to north at the time of the accident.

 

January 15, 2019 – 8:00 pm: Monte Ray Large, 66, was killed in a crash that took place while he was crossing the street on foot on Tuesday evening.

The crash occurred on North Highway 79 in Anderson County, near Palestine.

Large was hit by a 1998 Chevrolet Silverado, which was travelling northeast while he was crossing the street from the south. First responders were called onto the scene shortly after the crash took place, around 8:00 p.m.

When officers of the Texas Department of Public Safety arrived at the scene of the accident, Large was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was taken to Palestine’s Herrington Funeral Home.

The driver of the Silverado was fully cooperative with DPS troopers, and has not been identified at this time. There is no indication that any charges will be filed as a result of the crash.

It is unclear why Large was trying to cross the highway at that point, or what the circumstances were leading up to the crash. DPS is still investigating the accident at this time.
