According to news reports, witnesses saw the victim run in front of the train after walking along Adams Street.
December 11, 2018 – 2:30 pm: An unidentified pedestrian was killed after being struck by a Metro Rail train in east Houston on Tuesday afternoon.
According to Laura Whitley of the Metro press office, the accident happened while the train was traveling eastbound on the Green Line, hitting the pedestrian at the intersection of Harrisburg Boulevard and Adams Street.
Witnesses on the scene report that the victim was walking south on Adams Street before the crash took place, but then ran out in front of the train.
The victim was killed in the impact and pronounced dead at the scene. The force of the impact damaged a headlight on the front left side of the train.
This event is being investigated as an accident by Metro Police and Safety. The identity of the victim has not been made public at this time. Investigators have not drawn any conclusions about the cause of the accident, although the fact that the victim was walking before running in front of the train is certainly significant.
The investigation is ongoing at this time.
