Three Killed, Two Injured in Clay County

Police released the names of the victims on Tuesday evening, after the crash took place on Tuesday morning.

March 5, 2019 – 10:30 am: Three people were killed in a head-on collision between two vehicles on Tuesday morning. Police later identified the three who were killed as Karen Lynette Scott, 49, Clifford John Brooks, 69, and Jose Juan Garza, 44.

The two survivors were hospitalized with serious injuries. One was airlifted to a hospital in Fort Worth, while the other was taken by ambulance to Central Hospital of Bowie.

The crash took place near the county line between Clay and Montague counties. It was just inside Clay County, on State Highway 59, near Frog Hollar Road.

Two SUVs with a combined total of five people on board crashed head-on while they were traveling along Highway 59. The Texas Department of Public Safety arrived on the scene soon after the crash.

The cause of the crash is unknown at this time. The current condition of the survivors has not been made public, and their identities have not been made public either. Investigation into the crash is still underway, and more information will be made available as it becomes known.
