Two Injured in Early Morning Crash in Shelby County

News reports state that the crash led to a fire after one of the vehicles involved spilled diesel fuel.

 

December 20, 2018 – 5:45 am: Andrew Williams, 28, and Rodney Christian, 46, were both hospitalized after a crash that took place between a pickup truck and an 18-wheeler early on Thursday morning.

The accident took place in Shelby County on US Highway 96, roughly five miles south of Center.

Williams was driving northbound on US 96 in a pickup truck, and for unknown reasons swerved into the southbound lanes and hit the side of the 18-wheeler Rodney Christian was driving.

The accident forced the 18-wheeler from the roadway and caused it to overturn, spilling diesel fuel and breaking out in flames. Both Williams and Christian were hospitalized in Center, Texas after the accident. There were no other injuries in the crash.

After the crash, first responders advised drivers to be cautious while driving through the area. A hazmat team was also present for cleanup purposes, due to the diesel spill in the area of the crash.

It is still unknown why Williams swerved into the southbound lanes of the highway. The accident is still under investigation at this time.
