Two Killed in Vintage Airplane Crash in Fredericksburg

According to news reports, the World War II-era aircraft had a 93-year-old passenger on board at the time of the crash.

 

November 17, 2018 – 12:00 pm: Cowden Ward Jr., 73, and Vincent Losada, 93, were killed when the P-51D Mustang they were flying crashed during an airshow on Saturday.

The crash took place in the parking lot of an apartment complex in Fredericksburg, roughly 70 miles north of San Antonio.

Ward owned and operated the World War II-era fighter, which had just participated in a flyover on Saturday. He routinely flew veterans of World War II and the Korean War in his plane as part of his involvement with Freedom Flyers, an organization he’d founded.

The plane was participating in an airshow for the National Museum of the Pacific War in Fredricksburg. The program included a battle reenactment and a showcase of a variety of World War II equipment.

Losada was a World War II veteran who had flown B-17s during the war. He was not flying the P-51 at the time of the crash.

The causes of the accident are unknown at this time. The crash is still being investigated at this time.
