Two Officers Injured in Irving Crash

According to news reports, the police officers were only lightly injured in this hit-and-run accident.

 

January 15, 2019 – 11:00 am: Two officers with the Irving Police Department were injured in a hit-and-run accident in which an unidentified driver hit their motorcycles on Tuesday morning.

The accident took place in Irving, where the officers were monitoring traffic on northbound Highway 161, just before Highway 183. The officers were pulled over to the side of the highway.

According to the officers’ report, a car veered off the road, hitting one of the officers. This knocked the first officer and motorcycle into the second one. Both officers received minor injuries in the accident.

The driver of the vehicle that hit them reportedly stopped, got out of the vehicle, looked back at the damage, and then fled. Police are putting together a description of the suspect and his vehicle, using footage from dash and body cams. They are treating the accident as a hit-and-run.

The highway was shut down around the site of the accident for a couple of hours on account of the unfolding police investigation. Police are still searching for the driver responsible, who is likely to face charges for failure to stop and render aid.
