Two Police Officers Injured in Drunk Driving Accident

December 24, 2018

News reports state that the driver responsible for the accident faces two counts of intoxication assault of a peace officer and two counts of failure to stop and render aid.

December 24, 2018 – 12:15 am: The 23-year-old Cesar Collazo has been charged with multiple felonies in connection with an accident that injured two police officers early on Monday morning.

The crash took place on the 10100 block of Telephone Road.

Collazo was driving home, apparently intoxicated, when his Lincoln Navigator caused a police SUV to hit a pole and flip several times. The SUV caught fire, causing injury to the two police officers in the vehicle.

Officer John Daily and Officer Alonzo Reid, both 25 years old, were injured in the crash. Officer Daily, with burns covering roughly 50% of his body, was transported to the hospital by Life Flight helicopter. Reid, who was not severely burned, was later taken to the hospital via ambulance.

Collazo claims that he was not driving the vehicle at the time of the accident, and that his brother-in-law was the one responsible for the crash. If found guilty on all counts, Collazo faces up to 20 years in prison.
