Woman Dies in Car Fire After Crash

December 19, 2018

According to news reports, authorities suspect slick roads or intoxication may have contributed to the accident.

December 19, 2018 – 3:00 am: An unidentified woman died in a car fire that broke out after she lost control of her vehicle and crashed in northwest Harris County early on Wednesday morning.

The crash took place on northbound Highway 249, a short way north of Cypresswood.

Sgt. Simon Cheng of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office reports that the woman was exiting the highway when she hit a guard rail. The impact ignited her vehicle, and by the time firefighters were able to put out the blaze the woman was already dead.

Cheng said that the cause of the accident is not known for certain at this time. Two possibilities he mentioned were that the slick road conditions caused the woman to lose control of the crash, or that she lost control because of intoxication.

Neither of these possibilities has been confirmed or ruled out at this time. Cheng notes that it isn’t clear whether the woman tried slowing down before hitting the guard rail at high speed.

The investigation into this accident is still ongoing at this time.
